SPANISH CREEK CANOE TRAIL
Spanish Creek, which flows through much of the village, moves slowly and peacefully. As you paddle, you will be surrounded by luxuriant tropical forests. You may also see crocodiles, deer, termites, leafcutter ants, coati (locally known as quash), armadillo (locally known as hamadilli), Yucatan squirrel, paca (locally known as gibnut), agouti (locally known as bush rabbit) and if you’re very lucky you might see a Tapir-Belize’s national animal. The only sounds you hear will be howler monkeys, iguanas splashing into the water, and birds singing.

BIRD TRAIL
Spanish Creek is one of the best places to see a wide variety of birds in Belize. The village maintains tropical forests trails to the riverside and into the forest which make it easy to access the homes of these birds. Depending on the time of day and season, you will observe extraordinary native birds and neo-tropical migrants such as Bare-Throat Tiger-Herons, Montezuma Oropendolas, Olive-Throat Parakeets and Ospreys.
